Ekhidna Wines

The goddess Ekhidna [mythology’s she viper] was half nymph, half snake, mother of all monsters and defender of vineyards. Our Ekhidna [Australia’s great nose echidna] is a truly remarkable creature; a spiny anteater with a hedgehog’s spikes, a kookaburra’s beak, a kangaroo’s pouch, a platypus’s feet, an elephant’s lifespan, and a great nose.

Tim Gramp Wines

THE TIM GRAMP STORY

Wine is in Tim’s veins and he felt compelled to keep ‘flying the flag’ and continue the Gramp dynasty. These were big shoes to fill but the incentive to produce wine of the highest quality was a challenge too good to pass up! He studied wine production and marketing at South Australia’s world-renowned Roseworthy College. After graduating, Tim gained experience with small and large wine companies in Australia and has been involved with the Australian wine industry for over forty years.

Tim produced his first wine in 1991 — a full-bodied and robust Shiraz — winning a trophy and six gold medals, including a gold medal at the Intervin International wine show in New York City. The Tim Gramp Shiraz is a three times winner for Champion Dry Red Wine of Following this success, the next step was to find a suitable base to call headquarters and Tim knew it had to be in the Clare Valley. Its rich terra rossa and alluvial soils, Mediterranean-style climate paired with cool nights, and select vineyard aspect make the Clare Valley highly prized as one of the most important viticultural regions in Australia.

In 1996, while searching for a good Riesling grape grower, he found the perfect site: a winery for sale in the beautiful hamlet of Leasingham. Tim completely re-equipped the winery and renovated the adjoining 1860s cottage to create Tim Gramp Wines cellar door.

THE TIM GRAMP PHILOSOPHY
Tim’s heritage and focussed commitment have nurtured and reinforced his winemaking philosophy: to produce exceptional wine from small parcels of fruit selected from single-site vineyards in the famous wine sub-region of Watervale, Clare Valley. Time-honoured basket pressing epitomises the definitive regional and varietal characteristics of Tim Gramp Wines.

Curtis Family Vineyards

The Curtis Family Vineyards are established just west of the McLaren Vale township. Its vineyards have flourished, now its sought-after McLaren Vale wines are available on the Australian and export markets.

The story of the Curtis Family Vineyards is really the story of how everything old came new again…of how European immigrants came to Australia, struggled against the odds and then applied old world values and experience to produce fine wines.

The new faces behind the Curtis Family Vineyards are Mark, Thomas & Jenna Curtis, with the guidance of their father, Claudio Curtis who lives on the vineyard just outside McLaren Vale. The name Curtis is thought to derive from Curtius, a noble and wealthy family of the First and Second Centuries AD, the Roman Empire era originating from the Latinium people.

Records show that the Curtis Family name first appeared in Cervaro in 1471, a town established by the Latinium tribe in Central Italy around the Second Century AD. Cervaro is situated approximately 10klms south of the monastery town of Monte Cassino, the site of some of the bitterest fighting between the Allied and German forces in Italy during World war II.

In 1499 the Cardinal de Medici allocated Paolo Curtis the authority to administer the Papal lands in the area around Cervaro. Upon these rich soils they established vineyards and olive groves, which are still farmed by the family. They became major wine producing families, selling to large city merchants from Naples and Rome. The Second World War took its toll upon the buildings used as a winery and barrel storage, but more destructive was the introduction of the Phylloxera grape vine louse, badly damaging the vineyards. Some were replanted and are harvested today. It was whilst the later replanting was taking place that the young Claudio Curtis first became involved in vineyards. While his parents tendered the newly growing vines, Claudio tried to help by removing the growing shoots. The Curtis Family have been growning grapes and making wine in McLaren Vale since 1973.

Today the Curtis Family are concentrating on developing complex premium wines for the Australian market. Premium wines that show the Curtis Family passion for great McLaren Vale Wines.

O’Leary Walker Wines

O”leary walker wines

COMPANY HISTORY

O’Leary Walker Wines was established in 2000 by winemakers David O’Leary and Nick Walker. With over twenty five years experience and established reputations making premium wine with the big companies, these two long time friends decided to take control of their own destiny and craft small batches of wine from some of the best vineyard sites in South Australia. With a great leap of faith they are now doing exactly what they set out to.

O’Leary Walker Winery and Cellar Door is based at Leasingham in the Clare Valley, South Australia. The wines are regionally distinct with fruit sourced from other premium grape growing districts in South Australia including the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale. Our theory behind this is to draw on the grape varieties that excel in these quite different viticultural climates. O’Leary Walker celebrated its tenth year in 2010 with an established reputation for producing award winning regional wines at affordable prices.
